What a fantastic community we live in. It’s so wonderful we can play a part in a world event like the UCI Road World Championships. It is an opportunity to reflect on big events, in our own life, our community and our city.
The event hashtag is #RideOfYourLife, and what a ride life can be. Full of ups and downs, of mountainous climbs and exhilarating descents. In the moment, these ups and downs can appear so tough we aren’t sure if we will make it, we wonder if it is all worth it and, at times, we wonder where the journey of life is actually taking us. Indeed, when times are really tough, these big questions, where life is going, and where it will end, paralyse us, and sometimes they lead us to seek comfort in all the wrong places.
This is why the ‘#RideOfYourLife’ is best done with Jesus. During the World Championships, Christians all over the Illawarra, will be highlighting the work of Jesus by writing the word ‘Eternity’ on the road and footpath, in order to draw our attention to the one who can give our life purpose, meaning and provide a finish line to life that is secure and safe.
Jesus secures our future and promises us to be with us in the #RideOfOurLife, precisely because he loves us, came to die on a cross to pay the penalty for sin and rise from the dead to prove it to be true. Jesus says of himself: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26) In saying he is the resurrection, Jesus offers us a safe and secure eternal home when this life is over, as we trust in him. In saying he is the life, Jesus gives us with purpose, providing comfort through the ups and downs of the #RideOfYourLife.
The only question that remains is the question Jesus himself asks, ‘Do you believe this?’ We at Helensburgh and Stanwell Park Anglican Church encourage you to ask that question of yourself. We want you to meet Jesus, the one who can take the #RideOfYourLife through to #Eternity with him. We meet Jesus in the pages of the Bible, and we’d love you to explore who Jesus is, through its pages.
If you would like to meet with someone to discuss Jesus further, feel free to fill in the form on our website, or contact us at admin@2508Anglican.org or on 42941024 or through our Facebook or Twitter pages. We offer a regular ‘Exploring Christianity’ course which outlines who Jesus is and allows questions to be asked. We would love nothing more than to help you ride the #RaceOfYourLife through to #Eternity with Jesus!
